Entryway Storage Ideas for Narrow Hallways

The entryway is the first thing you see when you come home, and the first place clutter piles up. These ideas work even when the hall is barely a yard wide.

Go slim with shoe storage

Flip-drawer shoe cabinets are often under 10 inches deep, holding a dozen or more pairs without blocking the walkway. Anchor them to the wall with the included hardware.

Add a bench if you have the width

A shoe bench gives you a place to sit while you put on shoes, with storage underneath. A cushioned top makes it more comfortable; a hidden drawer hides keys and dog leashes.

Use a console table as a drop zone

A narrow console with a shelf or drawers holds a key tray, mail and a lamp. Measure the depth carefully — 10 to 12 inches is ideal for most halls.

Keep it to a system

  • One basket per person for hats and gloves
  • A tray for keys and wallets
  • A rule that only today’s shoes stay out
